• "Topping Out" the Udvar-Hazy Center Engen Tower

    The Donald D. Engen Observation Tower has been "topped out." Note the pine tree at the very top -- it is a steelworkers tradition to "plant" a tree when they reach the top of a structure. At 164 feet, the tower will rise 60 feet above the top of the aviation hangar and will be the highest structure in the Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center. Visitors will get a great view of the aircraft arriving and departing from Dulles International Airport.
