Members of the 509th Composite Group, the unit that dropped the atomic bombs during WWII, visited the Udvar-HazyCenter during their 2005 reunion in Washington, D.C.The unit was activated in Dec. 17, 1944, and deployed to Tinian in the Marianas in May 1945. The men posed with the B-29 superfortress Enola Gay, the first aircraft to drop an atomic bomb. Among the group shown here is the navigator on the Enola Gay’s historic flight, Capt. Theodore J.
