Time-delay renderings of radar sounder data (top) collected over a unit of the Medusae Fossae Formation, mysterious deposits that form hills (bottom) in the northern lowlands of Mars.  Subsurface echoes correlate with the projection of the lowland plains beneath the Medusae Fossae Formation deposits.  The electrical properties inferred from the sounder data suggest these deposits may be ice-rich.
