The Rembrandt impact basin revealed by the MErcury Surface, Space ENvironment, GEochemistry, and Ranging (MESSENGER) spacecraft during its second flyby of Mercury in October 2008 is shown here overlaid on an Advanced Very High Resolution Radiometer (AVHRR) image of the east coast of the United States. With a diameter of more than 700 km (430 miles), such a feature if formed at this location on Earth would encompass the cities of Washington, D.C. and Boston, Massachusetts and everything in between.
