    This image of the Sun's chromosphere was taken with a Hydrogen-alpha telescope. Look for long, curling black lines on the Sun's surface, known as filaments. These are actually streams of hot plasma erupting off of the Sun, exactly like the prominence on the top of the Sun in this image. They appear as dark lines because they are facing towards us.
