    This image of solar prominences on the edge of the Sun was taken with a Lunt Solar Systems 100mm hydrogen-alpha telescope on May 21st, 2011.

    Prominences are large clouds of plasma that flow along the Sun's magnetic field lines. The overexposed disk of the Sun was blocked out to show the prominences more clearly.
