Il'ya Muromets

On June 30th, 1914, Igor Sikorsky and his three person crew took off from Komendantsky Field near St. Petersburg in an Il'ya Muromets for a 2,574-kilometer roundtrip flight to Kiev. This remarkable flight proved the efficacy of his aircraft and promulgated the concept of commercial air transport as a means for connecting vast distances.
