    The Sun in H-alpha light, revealing several sunspots and prominences.  Photo taken on October 28, 2011.

    This image of the chromosphere of the Sun was taken at 12:33 pm on October 28, 2011.  The dominant sunspot is Active Region 1330.  Several prominences around the edge of the Sun trace gas which is lifting off the surface and following magnetic field lines, often in arcs larger than the Earth.
