Chief Registrar

Bio

Erik Satrum began work in the position of Chief Registrar at the National Air and Space Museum in 2009. In this role he manages the operations of the Registration team. During his tenure he has modernized procedures for loan management, deaccession transfers, and data management. He has managed updates to the National Air and Space Museum collections database to improve accessibility and data standardization and implemented a barcode tracking system to log and manage artifact movements. Prior to coming to NASM, Erik spent 11 years in the Registration Department at the Smithsonian National Museum of the American Indian, where he served as an Inventory Supervisor and the Assistant Registrar for Loans and Exhibitions. Erik has been a member of several National Air and Space Museum and Smithsonian-wide committees and working groups, and has served as both Vice-Chair and Chair of the Smithsonian Collections Information Management Committee and the Smithsonian Loans Forum.

Satrum holds a Masters degree from Syracuse University in Museum Studies and a Bachelors degree from Macalester College with dual majors in History and Political Science.
