    Wall of Honor Level:
    Air and Space Friend

    Honored by:
    Ms. Gloria S. K. Vaudo

Enlisted in Regular Army Air corps; 1944 grounded due to eye problem. Became a B-24 mechanic instead of a belly gunner. Fell from engine mount stand landing on his head. Spent four months in hospital. Transferred to AACS as a draftsman in Ashville, NC. Transferred with AACS to Langley Field , VA. Married Gloria Shelton Kline at St. Mary’s Star of the Sea. Transferred to Washington, DC. Got a Honorable Discharge 21 February 1947. Returned to MIT job for the next 39 years. Retired from MIT for the next 23 years to Tarboro, NC where he died Oct. 24, 2009. But in all those 62 years he took in every air show he could get to and read about every new development. In case anyone asks he still answered to “Shorty” just as he signed all the maps he drew at AACS. And to the hundreds of students he helped at MIT. He had four sons; #1 a civilian, #2 died in infancy, #3 in Air Force, and #4 one hitch in Navy/Reserves/National Guard (20 year retiree). For all purposes he called them #1, #2, and #3. #1 said the 23rd Psalm, #2 accepted his flag and #3 played Taps and in his Guard uniform led a motorcycle parade of vets from chapel to home with his ashes!
