For heroism While participating in aerial flight: On this date, Chief Warrant Officer Terrell was serving as pilot for the Division Commanding General in Combat Zone C during an important phase of a tactical operation. He was required to pilot the aircraft over heavily embattled territory and make several hazardous landings in remote jungle areas while being constantly engaged by intense Viet Cong fire. Chief Warrant Officer Terrell performed his duties in an exceptional manner despite the danger. Even though the aircraft was struck several times he un hesitatingly flew at low altitudes and repeatedly braved devastating automatic weapons fire in order to observe and mark insurgent movements and weapon emplacements. His adroit flying allowed the aircraft's gunners to place a voluminous barrage of fire on hostile positions. The quick thinking and superb piloting exhibited by Chief Warrant Officer Terrell enabled the Division Commanding General to call in' tactical air strikes and artillery rounds with pinpoint accuracy. Chief Warrant Officer Terrell's unparalleled efforts were singularly responsible for enabling the Division Commanding General to main-tain complete control over numerous maneuvering elements. His display of unswerving courage and dedication to men and mission distinguishes Chief Warrant Officer Terrell as a combat aviator of the highest calibre. Chief Warrant Officer Terrell's actions are in keeping with the finest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself, the 1st Infantry Division, and the United States Army.
By direction of the President, under the provisions of the Act of Congress, approved 2 July 1926.
