    Wall of Honor Level:
    Air and Space Friend

    Honored by:
    Mr. David B. Schoppaul

I quit high school in my sophomore year -1945- enlisted in the US Navy, served on two naval escort aircraft carriers, honorable discharge in 1946 to finish schooling under the Gl-bill.

Attended flight school, flew open cockpit airplanes for both aerial advertising banners and crop dusting.

Joined the airlines in 1955 and flew transport sized airplanes for 34 years as co-pilot and captain as follows:

1955- 1956 flew C-46 in northern Canada while building a radar network along the Arctic Circle to protect the US while the Soviet Union was developing the nitrogen bomb and a long range ballistic missile.

1956- 1959 served most US Air Force bases via log-air (logistic air support).

1959- 1960 flew for the United Nations Forces to stabilize Africa after native uprising following Belgian Congo independence.

1960- 1971 flew for MAC (military airlift command) from the US to Vietnam with ergo and troops.

1975 flew from Saigon to Cambodia to provide food and ammunition for the beleaguered forces, fighting the communists.

Received an US Air Force citation for the above, as each landing was met by enemy shells and rockets.

In between all this flew commercial passenger- and cargo flights around the world.

I retired only after getting health problems.

    I am rated as captain in the following transport aircraft: C-46, DC-6, DC-7, DC-8, C-130, B-727, B-707.
