Dave's love of flying began as a F-94 Starfire fighter pilot with the 96th Fighter Squadron of the United States Air Force. Upon completion of his military career, he continued flying for the Delaware National Guard at Dover, Del. At the same time he flew as an aircraft captain with Capital Airlines of Washington, D.C. in aircraft from the Douglas DC-3 to the Vickers Viscount.

When Capital Airlines merged with United Airlines, Dave continued his love affair with airplanes flying the United fleet including the DC-6, -7 and -8, the 737, 727, DC-10 and 747. he reitred from United Airlines as a 747 captain after 40 years of flight time.
