    Born in Kitchener, Ontario, Canada on 5 April 1932.

    Don joined the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) in September 1954 and was selected for pilot training on Harvards (T-6) in Claresholm, Alberta. During his six-year career with the RCAF he flew the T-33, F-86, Expeditor (B-18), and Dakota (DC-3).

    He transferred to the Royal Air Force in the United Kingdom in 1961 and spent his five- year tour in Transport Command flying the Bristol Britannia to most parts of the world.

    Don hired on with United Airlines (UAL) in September 1966, and after training in Denver, CO was sent to John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) in New York City to fly the DC-8. He was domiciled at JFK, LaGuardia, Newark, Cleveland, Denver, and San Francisco bases during his career with UAL. He flew the DC-8, B-727, B-737, B-767, DC-10, and the B-747-400. He retired at age sixty in April 1992 in Monument, Colorado.

    He was very active in the Airline Pilots Association serving on various committees during his career with UAL, and in retirement he became a member of the Retired United Pilots' Association.

    Don became active in the RCAF Association in Colorado Springs and was instrumental in creating and developing their North American Air Defense (NORAD) Museum in a hangar at Peterson Air Force Base. He also served as a member of the Board of Directors of the Peterson Air Force Base Air and Space Museum.

    Many of his fellow pilots and friends will remember him by his nicknames - Bounce or Swifty.
