    Edward DeChant began flying as a teenager. He continued at Ohio University, Athens, Ohio, graduating with a pre-law degree in 1964 plus CFI rating. In 1965, he joined United Airlines as a pilot. In 1968, he founded The Seaplane Pilot’s Association, which he headed until 1971. During that time, he wrote a column for Plane & Pilot Magazine about seaplane flying. Other articles have appeared in AOPA Pilot, and Private Pilot magazines. He was editor of the Airline Pilot Assn. publication Open Line, published for JFK-based pilots. He retired in 2001 as an International Captain. DeChant continues to fly a C185 Amphibian.
