Eugene M. Cummings was born on April 3, 1941, in Princeton,
Illinois. He attended Northwestern University, graduating with a
B.S.E.E. degree in 1963. After working as a television design engineer for Zenith Radio Corp. in Chicago, he attended Law School, and graduated with a J.D. degree in 1969. He began his flying career in 1958, at the age of 17. He was employed by United Airlines in 1969 and achieved the rank of Captain on the Boeing 727, which he held until his airline retirement in 2001. In addition to flying for United Airlines, Captain Cummings has owned and operated several personal aircraft, the most recent being a Dassault Falcon 10.
Captain Cummings presently has a patent law practice in Chicago.
