    Wall of Honor Level:
    Air and Space Leader

    Honored by:

Fred's keen interest in aviation started on his third birthday when he received an airplane with peddles. He built dozens of model airplanes during his youth and belonged to the Air Scouts division of Boy Scouts of America. Upon graduation from high school he joined the U.S. Army paratroops to serve in the occupation of Japan and get help with college. Before induction into the Army, he painted the local airport owners garage and received flight time as pay. After discharge he sold Fuller Brushes door-to-door while attending college and getting his pilot's license.
Fred joined United Airlines in 1952 and flew every category of airline aircraft from the DC-3 through the wide body jets. Capt Terhaar retired after 35 years of service with United in 1988.
