    Harold R. Storey earned his Private Pilot's license in 1941 through the Civilian Pilot Training Program (CPTP) and retired 40 years later as a DC-10 jet airliner Captain. He was a Naval Aviator from 1942 to 1947, serving in the Naval Air Transport Service and flying aircraft that ranged from multi-engine such as the R4D (the Navy version of the C47),to single-engine aircraft that included the F4U Corsair F8F Bearcat, and SB2C Helldiver.

    He began a 30-year career with United Airlines in 1951 as a DC-3 co-pilot. He earned piston ratings in the DC-3, -6, -7 and Convair 340/440, as well as jet ratings in the Caravelle, DC-8, and DC-10.
    Following retirement at age 60 he continued to fly privately and also earned a Glider License.

    He had logged over 27,000 hours when he quit flying at age 80.
