    Captain Simecek received his original pilot certificate in 1956 at the age of 16; he received his Airframe and Power Plant Mechanic's License with Inspection Authorization in 1960, his Certified Flight Instructor and Flight Engineer in 1961, and his Ground Instructor License in 1962.

    He was a 1960 graduate, Cum Laude, of Western Michigan University. After college, he went to work as a pilot for United Airlines in March of 1961, retiring in May of 1999 as number one captain in seniority. During his career with United, he flew the Douglas DC-6 and Dc-7, the Vickers Viscount, Douglas DC-8 and DC-10, Boeing 737, 727 and 747-400.

    During his airline career, Capt. Simecek also owned and operated Milan Airport in Milan, Michigan from 1965 to 2004.
