Soloed in 1962. Became a USAF fighter pilot, winning Daedalian Society's Orville Wright Achievement Award in 1969. After active duty earned Ph.D degree and joined Delta Airlines. Fellow of Royal Aeronautical Society. Chairman of NASA ASRS Committee and the International Federation of Airline Pilots' Associations (IFALPA) Human Performance Committee. Developed policy for airline industry on crew resource management and automation and workload management.
