Being the son of a sharp and talented aviator of the barnstorming era, Jim had the advantage of exposure to flight at a very early age. His natural abilities, deep-rooted interest, and committed learning of aviation have continued to excel throughout his life.

Jim was always involved at the airports from a very young age . . . mowing grass, washing and fueling planes, always being available to help as needed. He quickly absorbed everything he could about airplanes and flying. He has never had a fear of getting his hands dirty, always respectful of the machines he flies, and as a highly respected peer, always willing to share that knowledge and experience with others. As an airline captain, Jim took his position very seriously. His preparation and attention to detail and understanding of equipment and safety, was always appreciated among his peers as well as passengers.

Soloed in 1958 at age 13 at Benton Harbor, Michigan.

Earned Commercial, Instrument, Instructor and Airline Transport Pilot licenses within a very few years. Earned his Flight Instructor rating on his 18th birthday.

His brother and he held world record as youngest flight instructors with own approved flight school for long time.

At 22, was hired by Eastern Airlines as second officer and continued progressing over the next 26 years . . . flying the Connie, Electra, DC9, DC8, B720, Airbus, and continued on as captain of DC9, as well as training of other pilots until Eastern Airlines discontinued in 1989.

One of original, enthusiastic founders of Kiwi International Airlines - flying as captain of Boeing 727.

Continued career flying Boeing 757 and 767 for North American Airlines internationally until mandated age 60 retirement in 2003.

Renewed his instructing certificate and continues to teach.
