    Honored by:

Captain Siler while a first lieutenant in the US Air Force distinguished himself during an aerial flight, as aircraft commander, near Saigon, Republic of Vietnam on 7 Oct. 1969.

Due to an emergency right engine shutdown, airspeed and altitude could not be maintained. After careful maneuvering to avoid a populated area at an extremely low altitude the cargo was jettisoned and a safe single engine landing was made at Tan Son Nhut Airbase.

Following his Air Force career he was a pilot with Delta Air Lines for 31 years. He retired on 01 Sept. 2003 as a captain on a B767-400.
