A native of Wyoming, Carl's father was the first to land in his home town; the aircraft: 1927 Alexander Eaglerock.
Carl joined the Wyoming Air National Guard as an enlisted man in 1950, entered pilot training in 1951, commissioned in 1952, flew fighters until 1958.
With a Juris Doctorate (JD) from the University of Wyoming he entered cable television business.
He owned numerous single- and multi-engine aircraft. Rated: single-, multi-engine land, commercial, instrument. Added seaplane and type rated CE500.

- Participant National Air Tour 2003
- Helped create the Wings Over the Rockies Air and Space Museum, which awarded him the Inaugural Lifetime Achievement Award in 2004
