    Dr. Charles Barry is a private pilot – ratings – airplane single engine land instrument airplane. He is currently an applicant for the position of Mission Specialist with NASA.

    Founder of Luminous Networks, Dr. Barry is a recognized innovator in multi-service IP networking. Dr. Barry is the inventor of Luminous Networks Gigabit IP over Fiber technology. Dr. Barry obtained his Ph.D. in 1996 from Stanford University where he performed pioneering research on STARNET, the world's first multi-gigabit DWDM network. Dr. Barry is a published author and co-author of over twenty scientific papers featuring adaptive systems, high-speed networking, multi-gigabit fiber optic networks and digital video broadcast. Dr. Barry is an award winning product designer and the only two-time recipient of Digital Equipment Corporation's Graduate Engineering Program Fellowship, a highly competitive program for sponsored research. He also holds a B.S. in physics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
