    CMSgt Lawrence J. Bara (deceased) joined the United States Air Force in 1955 starting as an Airman Basic (E-l) at Lackland AFB, Texas. Chief Bara served four years on active duty as a Reciprocating Engine Mechanic at Tachikawa AFB, Japan and at Dow AFB, ME.

    After separating from active duty, he later joined the Air Force Reserve and soon became a full time Air Reserve Technician at Westover Air Reserve Base. During his sixteen years at Westover, Chief Bara moved up the ranks from Staff Sergeant (E-5) to Chief Master Sergeant (E-9). He served as a Recip Engine Mechanic, Turbofan Mechanic, Shop Chief, and Night Shift Supervisor in the 439th Field Maintenance Squadron. One of Chief Bara's last assignments, which earned him many accolades, was his role as Flight Line Production Supervisor during Operations Desert Shield/Storm.

    His career scanned the full spectrum of Cargo Aircraft from the C-124 to the C-5A. He served on the Westover Chiefs' Council and mentored many junior airmen. Chief Bara passed away in December of 1995.
