    CMSGT Robert M. Simpson (Retired) was born August 28, 1932. He graduated from Upper Darby HS June 1951, enlisting in the USAF in August 1952. He was initially assigned to the 3650th Base Military Training Group, Military Training Wing Flight 2124 at Sampson AF Base, NY, and completed Technical Training School 3320th Technical Training Group, 3344th Student Squadron, Amarillo AFB Texas, February 1953. He was reassigned to Larson AFB, State of Washington, May 1953 31st fighter interceptor squadron 5/53 – 8/55 (redesignated 322 ND fighter interceptor squadron 8/55), in technical supply. The primary mission of the 31st fighter interceptor squadron was the protection of the Grand Coulee Dam and Hanford Atomic Energy Facility. At that time all air defense command squadrons were equipped with North American F86D Sabre Dogs. In 1954 he became crew chief. He was discharged 11/2/1956 and began his four year military reserve obligation until 11/2/1960. During that time he worked for General Electric and in 1957 he enrolled in Quaker City School of Aeronautics, obtaining an aircraft power plant license and ultimately accepting a position in March, 1959 at the Willow Grove Naval Station in Horsham, PA, as an air reserve technician (Federal Civil Service and Air Force Ready Reservist) in the 512th Troop Carrier Wing. He was called to active duty during the Cuban Missile Crisis in 1962. He continued with the AF Reserves and as a civilian employee with the 913th Tactical Airlift Group until 1992, eventually managing 913th state-side logistics during Operation Desert Storm; his rank rose from SSGT (10/1/60-WGARF, PA 512th TCW), MSGT (12/21/1967 – WGARF, PA 913th TCG), SMSGT (1/20/1975 – WGARF, 913th TCG) to CMSGT ( 3/15/1977 – WGARF, PA 913th TCG). He retired CMSGT following 39 years, 9 months and 25 days of federal service. He is the recipient of an Air Force Commendation Medal and Air Reserve Forces Meritorious Service Medal (1972-1977) and (1977-1992) and nine Sustained Superior Performance Awards during 1982 through 1992. A talented artist, painter and satirical cartoonist, he devoted untold hours depicting military and reservist life for monthly maintenance journals, rendering an interpretation of organized maintenance to the delight of all. Robert, a true patriot, is extremely proud of his service to the United States. A long-time member of St. David RC Church, Willow Grove, PA, he is the President of The Society of St. Vincent de Paul, Willow Grove Chapter (2002-Present), a national organization of lay people striving to grow spiritually by offering person-to-person service to individuals in need. A patriarch beloved of his family and friends, Robert thanks his Creator for a life devoted to God, family and country.
