Honored by:

Col. Shepard joined the Air Force in 1950 though the Aviation Cadet Program. He was awarded Silver Star while flying with the 18th Fighter Bomber Wing during the Korean War. He was also Squadron Commander during the Vietnam War flying over 200 missions in the F-4 fighter aircraft. Col. Shepard continued to fly fighter aircraft in the Air Defense Command and Tactical Air Command until his retirement in 1978.
