Howard Bubel served as a military reservist for 34 years until retirement from the U.S. Air Force in 1990 as a colonel. He served as a civilian with the Air Force and later with the Department of Defense. He flew as a private commercially licensed pilot to promote air travel and used his background to identify reduced takeoff power efficiencies for military aircraft. Renate, his wife, was a strong supporter of air travel and aviation safety.
