CW4 C.J. Smith flew CH-60 Blackhawk helicopters in combat with the 101st AB Division in
Operation Desert Storm. Three years later, with the 160th Special Ops Aviation Regiment, he flew the AH-6 "Little Bird" helicopter in support of Special Forces for 17.5 hours combat, providing cover for the Rangers awaiting rescue. He was awarded the Silver Star for heroism.
He was selected "Night Stalker" of the year following the battle of Mogadishu, Somalia. His being in the 160th SOAR made it equivalent to being named the top pilot in the US Army. The movie "Blackhawk Down" was a story which told of the events in Mogadishu.
CW4 Smith is currently involved in instructing the instructors for training Special Forces pilots in flying the AH-6 "Little Bird' at Ft Campbell KY.
