Mr. Smith has been involved in Space Reconnaissance since its early days. As an engineering graduate of the University of Maryland, he joined the Intelligence Community and developed an interest in unique reconnaissance techniques. When Space Reconnaissance became a reality, he easily transitioned from the more conventional techniques. Initially, he has contributed toward the analysis of data collected from unique airborne and spaceborne platforms. Later, he supported design and development of hardware and software tools to support Airborne and Space Reconnaissance. Now retired, his interest has migrated into docent contributions at the NASM's Udvar-Hazy Center.
