    David Siedenburg served with the 306th Bombardment Group, 8th Army Air Force as a pilot of a B-17 Flying Fortress with the 367th Squadron. He achieved the rank of first lieutenant and was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross and the Air Medal with three Oak Leaf Clusters. He completed 35 combat missions in the European theater of operations.

    Following the war he graduated from Cornell University with a degree in mechanical engineering. He maintained a lifelong interest in aviation and space exploration. He died May 19, 1999 after a long illness.
