    Honored by:

I was a NASA Mission Specialist Astronaut Candidate from 2001 through 2004 and had been on an internship at the NASA Ames Research Center in 1997-1998 in the life sciences division. My interest in becoming an astronaut was the result of being able to wear Colonel Gordon Cooper's backup Apollo space suite in either 5th or 6th grade at my elementary school in Palo Alto, California in 1971-1972. My research and development company, Advanced Human Design, that was founded in the city of Cupertino, California in 1992, and did some space related research that was presented as two papers at a space research conference in 1998 (Tice, 1998). In 1969 I was on the first Boeing 747 jetliner that was allocated to TWA and flew from New York to San Francisco in August 1969 in a special pre-flight trip before the official flights started in 1970.
I have done extensive research and development into many aspects of High Altitude Long Endurance (HALE) platforms including the first paper on nuclear, and nuclear derivative, power and propulsion of HALE platforms (Tice, 2009) as well as early telecommunications designs for multiple signal mediums for use in terrestrial, air and space use of laser and radio frequency dual purpose telecommunications systems (Tice, 2004). I also have done research into using satellites as a 'network' of communication nodes to integrate computers on a global scale (Tice, 1998b).
