Don graduated with a Ph.D. degree in ME (Aeronautical Sciences option) from the University of California, Berkeley. After postdoctoral fellowships to the University of Naples, Italy, and the City College of New York, he joined TRW Systems in Redondo Beach. During his 30 years at TRW in the Fluid Mechanics department he worked in the fields of rarefied gas dynamics, chemically reacting boundary layers, blast wave boundary layers, and radar scattering from water waves modulated by internal waves, etc. In his spare time he wrote two books on airplane design that help with performance calculations using nomograms to relate the airplane design and performance variables. He has taught an aerodynamics course at Cal State Long Beach and UCLA, and has given lectures at the EAA conventions at Oshkosh, WI, and Lakeland, FL. He retired from TRW in 1999 and spends time on his golf game, travel, visiting grand kids, and the next book.
