Founded the country’s first non-profit blood bank in San Francisco.
In World War II, joined the Army Air Corps as a flight surgeon.
After the war he was decorated by the Queen of England for his medical and humanitarian efforts.
Flew his own aircraft for many years.
Died in 1983
