    Dr Munson Kwok was one of the earliest researchers in high-energy lasers. He was a supporting member of a team which invented the hydrogen fluoride continuous -wave chemical laser. This device would go on to be one of the key pillars of President Reagan's Strategic Defense Initiative as a potential space-based laser.

    Dr Kwok devoted most of his career to the research and development of the chemical laser, other high-energy lasers, and beam-control systems for space-based military operations, co-authoring over 70 papers and reports. He was an employee for over 35 years of the Aerospace Corporation, a Federally Funded Research and Development Center.
