    General Gregory began his military career 6 June 1955 when he was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant after graduating from Syracuse University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration. He entered active duty and pilot training in January of 1956 training at Mission, Texas; Greenville, Mississippi and finally at Williams Air Force Base in Phoenix, Arizona. Upon completion of training, he served a tour of duty in Korea.
    In November of 1958 Gregory was assigned to the New York Air National Guard and the 174th Tactical Fighter Group at Hancock Field. He was recalled to active duty during the Berlin Crisis, serving as a tactical fighter pilot when the 174th Tactical Fighter Wing (TFW) was assigned to Phalsbourgh, France in 1961. He was recalled once again 1968 for the Pueblo Crisis and served at Cannon Air Force Base, New Mexico as a tactical fighter pilot with the 140th Tactical Fighter Wing where he had held various positions within the organization ranging from flight commander, operations staff officer and finally deputy commander of operations.
    General Gregory was a Combat Ready Pilot with over 13,000 total flying hours primarily made up flying the F-86H; A-37B; BAC 1-11, Convair 580, DC-9, Boeing 737, and A-10 type aircraft. General Gregory was current in over sixteen different aircraft during his military career. General Gregory's last assignment was deputy commander of operations of the 174th TFW at Hancock Field, Syracuse, NY.
    His military Education included: Air Force Squadron Officers' School; Air Command and Staff College; The Intelligence and Imagery Officer Course; Maintenance Officer Course; Administration Officer Course; Industrial War College and Air War College.
    Medals include: Air Force Commendation Medal; Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal; Small Arms Expert Ribbon, New York State Accommodations Service Medal; National Defense Service Medal; New York State Long and Faithful Service Medal (20 Years); Armed Forces Reserve with One Hour Glass Device, and One Oak Leaf Cluster; Air Force Longevity medal with Five Oak Leaf Clusters; New York State Recruiting Ribbon; Combat Readiness with Five Oak Leaf Cluster.

    In civilian life Gregory was president of an independent insurance agency; served as a captain for US Air; and was president of Gregory, Stephens Leasing, Ltd.
    His civilian memberships include: director and president of Skaneateles Library Association, Inc., trustee of John D. Barrow Art Gallery, Skaneateles Volunteer Fire Department, Skaneateles Chamber of Commerce, New York State Chamber of Commerce, New York State Jaycee Alumni Association, United States Jaycees International (Senator), American Legion Robert J. Hydon Post 239, Skaneateles Figure Skating Club, Reserve Officers Association, National Guard Association of the United States, Air Line Pilots Association, Independent Insurance Agents Association, National Federation of Independent Business, New York State Militia, Wilmington Figure Skating Club, Aircraft Owners & Pilots Association, Republican National Committee, and the American Red Cross 19 Gallon Club
