Pursuant to authority contained in letter AG 200.6, Headquarters, U.S.F., China Theater, subject: Decorations and Awards, dated 8 August 1945, and under the provisions of AR 600-45, dated 22 September 1943, the DISTINGUISHED FLYING CROSS or the OAK-LEAF CLUSTER thereto is hereby awarded to the following named officers of the night fighter squadrons indicated for extraordinary achievement in aerial flight. They distinguished themselves as pilots and radar observers of fighter type aircraft during the periods cited, flying both day and night missions. During their night missions they intercepted attacking enemy aircraft and strafed and bombed enemy railroad trains and truck convoys. Flying day fighter missions, they attacked enemy installations, troop concentrations, lines of communication and supply dumps, inflicting heavy losses on the enemy. Fire from hostile aircraft and enemy ground guns were encountered frequently, but they carried out their missions with aggressive courage. The outstanding accomplishments of those officers reflect credit upon themselves and upon the Army Air Forces.

GERALD E. HALLAS, 0770096, First Lieutenant, Air Corps, Pilot. 23 March 1945 to 10 August 1945. 23 night missions. 11 day missions.
