Glory’s love for airplanes began as a child growing up in Wisconsin near a small airport. Building balsa wood airplanes and dreaming of one day flying a plane was as close as she got to the clouds throughout her childhood and early adult life. Raising five children with her husband, her desire to fly an airplane never diminished, and on her 25th wedding anniversary at the age of 44, her husband, Chuck, gave her the gift of flying lessons. As it turned out, Glory not only obtained a pilot’s license, but her flight instructor ended up marrying one of her daughters. Several years later, she became an airplane owner, acquiring a Grumman TR2 which she piloted for 15 years and in which she logged over 700 flight hours. Perhaps her most memorable flying experience was a six week adventure in which she left her husband, children and grandchildren behind and flew with another female pilot in a Cessna 172 from Indianapolis, IN to Anchorage, AK for a gathering of the female pilots association, The 99s. Camping along the long journey, the trip was IFR piloted before the days of GPS. Before piloting her last flight, Glory’s aerial journeys spanned the skies from Alaska to the east coast of the United States. Glory remains active with the Greenwood, IN Airport Pilot’s Club and is an accomplished watercolor artist. Her favorite thing to paint… you guessed it…airplanes!
