First flight at Miller Field in Winston-Salem, NC as prize for Model Building Contest (Model was a J-3 Cub and flight was in a J-3); Joined US Army Air Corps 10/14/43. First solo 10/02/44 in a Stearman PT-17 Primary Flt Training Lakeland, FL. 12/22/44 AT-6s from Shaw Basic Flight Training, Sumter, SC. 3/11/45 AT-10s at Columbus, MS Advanced Flt Training. 5/23/45 Commissioned 2nd Lt. Columbus, MS flying AT-10s and B-25s. 8/4/45 Brooks Field, San Antonio flying AT-7s and AT-11s. 9/15/45 Alliance, NE flying C-47s. 1/1/51 1st LT. 12/31/54 Ret.
