    On the 31st of January, 1945, Captain Terrell led six B-25s of the 405th Bomb Squadron, 38th Bomb Group, 5th Air Force, against three Japanese destroyers in the South China Sea south of Formosa. One destroyer was sunk and two badly damaged. During the attack one B-25 was shot down and the crew perished. This was Captain Terrell's eightieth (80th) mission. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross for this action. At war's end he had flown eighty-eight missions. He was the recipient of the Air Medal with four Oak Leaf Clusters, Presidential Unit Citation with two Oak Leaf Clusters, Asiatic Pacific Ribbon with nine battle stars.
