    HENRY A. BERLINER 1895-?: Mid 1920' built the first controllable helicopter; a later unit built for the US Navy is on display the College Park Airport Museum, College Park, Maryland. Organized ERCO (Engineering Research Co.). Just prior to World War II, built a factory in Riverdale Md. to produce Ercoupes: 2 place low wing all metal, (except fabric covered wings), tricycle landing gear spin proof airplanes). Pre war and post war production totaled over 5000 units. Prior to World War II developed, and built automatic riveting machine for aircraft production as well as aircraft propeller blade profiling machines. Another development was non-metal aircraft propeller blades. Defense production included radar antennas, electric machine gun turrets for aircraft as well as wing tip fuel tanks. Colonel Berliner was an 8th Air Force target selection expert.
