    Henry "Hal" Bunting graduated from Bowdoin College, Brunswick, Maine in 1943. He joined the Navy and qualified as a naval aviator. Assigned to the USS WASP (CV-18) in the Pacific Theater he flew in some of the most intense combat missions of the war. Hal attained the rank of lieutenant junior grade and was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross and the Air Medal. He remained in contact with his surviving naval aviator colleagues until the time of his death in January 2004. He was 83 at the time of his death.
