    Honored by:

My name is IRVINE GINDER SMITH. I joined the 806th Chemical Co., at Racheath, England (near Norwich) early 1943 (we were trained to use Mustard Gas, Phosgene gas, etc. but when we joined the 44th Bomb Group with the 8th Air Force; & we trained ourselves & our company (2 sections of it) to load B-24 planes with 'napalm' (gelled gasolene) that was used to bomb many places in Europe. I started out as a 2nd Lt., then 1st Lt. and at the end of my service became a Captain. We fortunately never had to use the death gases...but was well trained to help load the B-24's with the napalm. We came back to the U.S.A. after the end of the war in Europe..headed to Arizona to train for same effort against Japan...& then that war ended (thank goodness). I had trouble finding all the trucks that belonged to the 806th upon arriving in Arizona but fortunately with the full ending of the wars, I was dismissed from the service as well as all our company men (near 150 men). I arrived home in LANCASTER, OHIO the day before Christmas in 1945. ...( Wonderful.) Good luck & keep the Air & Space Museum going for ever.
