    Jack Garrison served two years in the Coast Artillery before transferring to the Army Air Corps. He saw action as a Staff Sergeant Tail Gunner on a Liberator with the 451st Bomb Group in Italy. He completed 51 missions including two missions to Regensburg, Germany during the “Big Week” of February, 1944, as well as missions to Ploesti, Budapest, Bucharest, Vienna, Munich and Tulon. His mission on 4-4-44 was different. On the bombing run to Bucharest Marshalling Yards the #3 engine was shot out and the plane was on fire. He remained at his turret during six attacks by ftrs, downing one. With the fire extinguisher, the plane regained formation. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross for this mission. He also received the Distinguished Unit Badge with Cluster, Air Medal with four clusters, as well as numerous other medals, including the Distinguished Service Medal from New Jersey and the French Citation for the Liberation of France, 1944-1945.
