Soloed in 1936 at age 16 in a Nicholas-Beasley Barling NB-3. Built a “Flying Flea” from Henri Mignet’s book in 1937-38 and finally got it to fly in 1939 – flew it over the courthouse at Marshall, MO just to show off. Also flew a glider (on a good day) from Highland Ill. to Marshall, MO – (made longer glider flights than this, but with prevailing winds west).
Current Ratings S.E.L. and Glider; but much prefer gliders (sailplanes; currently a DG-800).
