Ms. Edythe Maxim
Jean was born into a medical family December 29, 1916, but her heart was always with aviation. She became an accomplished and respected pilot.
Her energy and generosity were a source of inspiration to all who knew her. She liked the challenge and fun of competition and her flight log records the Powder Puff Derby in 1963, 1964, and 1966. She flew the All-Women's Air Race and the Michigan Small Race.
Jean was a member of the Women's Air Force Service Pilots (WASP) Class 44-W-8.
The Ninety-Nines (an organization of women pilots) conventions, section meetings and chapter programs always found her ready with assistance and dedication. She would spread the good word and love of flying on her many world-wide travels. She was the Chairman of the All-Ohio Chapter and the Vice-Chairman of the North Central Section.
Cancer claimed her life September 24, 1981.
Her headstone reads "Gone Flying."
