    General Tuohy was commissioned in the United States Air Force through the Reserve Officer Training Corps as a Distinguished Graduate in 1978. He has been assigned to numerous operational, command and staff positions, including
    B-52 Electronic Warfare Officer, Air Liaison Officer, Squadron Commander, Human Resources Officer-Washington, Joint Forces Headquarters-Washington, Chief of Staff, Wing Commander, and United States Property and Fiscal Officer-Washington.
    Brigadier General Tuohy completed his career with an assignment as the Assistant Adjutant General for Air over the Washington Air National Guard.
    Under his leadership the organization of 2100 members conducted missions in a multitude of areas including aerial refueling, engineering, combat communications, intelligence, targeting, Western Air Defense Sector and cybersecurity. Additionally the state prepared for and responded to disasters including the Oso mudslide, fires and Cascadia Rising exercise in anticipation of the Cascadia Subduction Zone earthquake, the largest of its kind ever conducted.
