Joseph A Marotta, Jr. is a retired aviation executive who began his career with United Airlines in 1984. Joe spent more than 17 years at United Airlines, having started in entry level customer service, ramp, and air freight positions in the New York and Miami areas. Eventually Joe became the youngest General Manager with United at the time as he oversaw all operations at the White Plains (HPN) location for the company and through the airport’s transition from a Quonset hut to new airport terminal with new parking garage. As General Manager, Joe also oversaw all operations for the company at the Boise (BOI) airport location, also during its new airport terminal construction phase. On September 11, 2001, Joe was asked to be a co-leader of the Go-Team and spent more than 6 weeks in Shanksville, PA working on the ground with the families of Flight 93 as well as with the various governmental authorities following the events of 9/11. He has written an account / chapter of this time in the book ‘On the ground after September 11: Mental health responses and practical knowledge gained’ copyright 2005 by Danieli and Dingman. Joe left United in 2002 as Division Controller and went on to various other executive level positions throughout his 38-year career which included Vice President & Controller, Spirit Airlines, Vice President & Controller Maxjet Airways, CFO masFlight, CFO and President/CEO Ejet Aviation, CFO Encompass Aviation, and Head of People Services for Eastern Airlines.’
