Joe Engmann was born in 1918 in St. Louis, Missouri. He enlisted in the Army-Airforce in 1944. He served as a Bombardier-Navigator in the "over the hump" route between India and China from late 1944 to the end of the war with Japan in May 1945. Upon discharge, Joe worked for the United Nations Relief and Reconstruction Agency (UNRRA) in Shanghai, China where he met his future bride - Masha Klatchko. Upon returning to the U.S., he graduated from Washington University in St. Louis with a B.A. in accounting. Subsequently he began a distinguished civil service career serving the U.S. Army, Defense Department and General Services Administration at posts in Japan, Hawaii, Chicago and eventually San Francisco. He retired from government service in 1972. Joe began a new career as the Treasurer-Controller of Engmann Options, Inc. in 1978 which was an options trading firm founded by his sons, Michael and Douglas Engmann. Joe died on November 13, 1993 with a wonderful life and family as his legacy.
