    Born 16 April 1929 at Elyria, Ohio; family moved to Glendale, CA, in 1938. Enlisted service, U.S. Army, 1946-1948. Degrees: B.S. (Eng.), Caltech (1953); M.S. (Mech. Eng.), M.I.T. (1957). He worked for Lockheed Aircraft Corp., Burbank, CA 1952-1955, leaving to attend M.I.T.
    Became Chief Engineer, Irving Air Chute Co., Glendale, CA in 1957, and with other engineers designed and developed the parachute assembly used in the first successful recovery of a U.S. satellite from earth orbit (Discoverer XIII, 1960). He then returned to Lockheed, working for the Missile & Space Division in Sunnyvale, CA, Huntsville, AL, and Austin, TX in the years 1958-1988. Retired as Program Engineer in 1988. Resided at Seal Beach, CA after 1997.
    Author of several articles on parachute technology (1964-1988). Life member of Mensa and of the American Society of Engineers (ASME); Associate Fellow of American Institute of Aeronautics & Aeronautics (AIAA). Chairman of ASME's Santa Clara Valley Section (1974); one of the recipients of an ASME Centennial Medallion (1980). Registered Professional Engineer in CA, AL, and TX.
